Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Burt Moe has given to Petroleum Directorate of the country more time to complete the study subsurface region of the island of Jan-Mayen. This was reported on the website of the Norwegian Energy Ministry.
В«In order to provide the Storting the most informative basis for a decision, I gave the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate more time to complete of ongoing exploration work in Norwegian waters near the island of Jan-MayenВ» – said the Minister.
Thus, the parliament will not need to make a decision about opening these waters for oil before the summer, as originally planned by the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Norway.
Note, according to preliminary results, the hydrocarbon resources of Jan Mayen are 90 million cubic meters of oil equivalent.
In March 2011, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy reported that for a mapping of oil and gas in Jan-Mayen for the period 2012-2014 will be allocated 180 million Norwegian kroner.
